Anime Motivation – One Piece: 3 Life Lessons Learned from the Fishman Island Arc

What’s up everyone?! Not too long ago I finished the Fishman Island Arc in One Piece and I must say that it was deeply intense.

That arc dealt with stereotypes, racial disputes, power gaps and much more. But I wanted to dig into some of the lessons learned from that arc which may help us along our journey.

I really love One Piece because under the guise of a heroic shonen adventure, a lot of the stories and experiences the crew deals with, heavily applies to our own lives and the situations that we deal with in our current universe.

Anime Motivation – Sometimes People May Hate You Without You Knowing

When arriving on Fishman island and even before that when the crew arrived in the Sabaody Archipelago, it is evident that Fishmen, Mermaids, and Humans suffer deep discrimination from one another.

Some of these stereotypes and the pain that each of the races feel towards each other stems from deep conflict from years past.

In the case of Hordy Jones and his crew, their hate stems from the traditional mindset passed to them from the people that they looked up to even though they never interacted with humans.

Now this stigma is not only present in this arc, but within our own society today. Due to our circumstances and where we are from, some of us may have hate towards others based on their race, thought patterns, stereotypes  or what country that they come from due to conflicts of the past.

As the person on the receiving end of this treatment, we must understand why the people treat and feel the way that they do about us. This can apply to anyone no matter what status, race or region of the world that we may come from.

Although this may be the case, we must continue in our journey and be the best version of ourselves and represent the best that our heritage or culture has to offer.

The only way to rid this world of this mentality is to not pass it on to our children, however, we are not all in control of what others pass down to future generations.

With that being said, we must continue to do our best to represent ourselves and our community with the upmost respect and pride so that we can gradually change the views that people may have of us.

Anime Motivation – Stand For What Is Right No Matter How Hard

With standing for what is right, this is most evidently seen during the flashbacks regarding the Queen when she was gathering signatures for the approval to have fishmen and humans live together in harmony on the surface.

Sometimes in our lives, if we truly believe something is right, we must fight for it no matter how hard it is.

In the end, the Queen did die and although everyone thought it was a human that did it, but it was actually her very own Fishman soldier “Hordy Jones” that shot and killed her.

Now this part was a lesson in itself, because I’ve seen many cases where people have lost their lives at the hands of the very people that they are fighting for.

With that being said, in our path to greatness, yes we should love everyone and do our best to help them, but make sure to keep your trust limited and stay protected.

It takes years to accomplish the goal and finish the journey that you embark on, but it only takes one second, one mood swing, or one bullet to have your life ended by someone you would consider to be of your community, family, or social circle.

Anime Motivation – True Progress Begins When Negative Traditions End

Now true progress in the world begins when these negative mindsets that constantly get passed from generation to generation ends.

As seen in this arc, the Queen said to protect the children and to make sure that they never see the anger and violence between fishmen and humans.

This is true, because whatever the next generation sees, that is what will be brought forward.

This is the very reason why Terrorism, Bigotry, and prejudice continue to exist in all parts of the world.

The people who embody these ideals may die, but the idea continues to live on in those close to them and they keep getting passed down.

In your path to greatness, you may deal with these, heck some of our own parents may have passed some of these ideals on to us, but to truly make the world better when you die than it was when you were born, we must end the cycle.

Be the change that you want to see and continue being great!!
