WHAT’S GOOD? I’M KING SHABAZZ AND IT’S GREAT TO MEET YOU!

Do you ever feel like you’re stuck in a cage?

Or like you’re always the oddball in the group who doesn’t quite fit in because you feel there’s more to life than what’s placed in front of you?

Well, that was me back in 2005 at the age of 12. Back then I was constantly looking for a way to live my life the way I choose because I felt that nearly every adult I knew was practically miserable and I didn’t want that to happen to me.

Growing Up

Fast-forward to the year 2013, and I was already feeling the effects of being an adult. At this point, I had already graduated from High School and joined the military because I wanted to travel and I didn’t want to pay for school. Even still, I felt like this career choice wasn’t necessarily my purpose in life. All I really wanted to do was travel, draw, and perform music in front of huge crowds of people. I absolutely hated waking up super early every morning just to drive 15 to 30 minutes to work, just to be told what to do for 8 to 12 hours a day and then repeat the process again the following day.

My only aim was to use my creative talent to manifest a universe dedicated to inspiring people to have fun, believe in themselves, and do whatever they could to achieve their dreams. I sent up so many prayers to God, but it seemed like my dream was literally just that, a dream.

Then one day, in early July, as I was getting off from work, a guy who worked in my building came over and asked me if I was
interested in attending an informal business presentation. In my mind, I’m thinking, I’ll see what he has to say because I’m all about business. Michael Jackson, Usher, MC Hammer, and 50 Cent were my biggest musical inspirations and they all seemed to have a business sense so I felt that if I wanted to be like them then I should own a business too.

Now

Since that day, my life has completely changed. At this point, I’ve been to over 15 countries, become an avid entertainer while making loads of new friends, and I’ve performed on 3 different continents. I was even named an Area Finalist for the 2016 Open Mic UK Music competition, representing the top 1.5% out of 10,000 performers nationwide. On top of that, I created “Starving For Greatness International“ or S4G Int’l for short. S4G is a mindset and collective movement which is meant to inspire creators as well as fans to be innovative and find ways to make their dreams a reality. Additionally,  I’ve published books, been on the radio, and I’ve enjoyed numerous vacations while loving every minute of it!

Now don’t get me wrong, none of this has been easy. I’ve dealt with loads of stress, had many sleepless nights, and I’ve failed a lot of times. However, Travel, Music, & Art are my undying passions and I’m excited to have the opportunity to live by doing what I love even if it’s not full time. It’s been a slow grind, but I’ll get there eventually as long as I continue to hustle and believe.
